Aquanita Formguide
Aquanita Yearling Success
Each year the team of Aquanita trainers goes to every yearling sale throughout Australia and New Zealand. From Perth to Auckland, our team of experts comprises not only the five individual trainers, but our specialist veterinary consultant, Dr Kim McKellar and noted bloodstock specialist Merrick Staunton.

We personally inspect over 5,000 yearlings per annum. Many of these inspections take place on studs well before the sales take place. We have developed a buying strategy with firm criteria on budgets and the types of horses we buy for an owner.

This strategy has paid dividends with many high quality horses being purchased at prices that represent excellent value.

Horses to Follow

  • Mikeys Magic
Okawango has not reached great heights as a stallion but he has a good one in Mikeys Magic. The Vasil trained galloper did not reach the races until her four year old year but she has quickly made up for lost time. Four trips to the track see her record at three wins and a third placing

  • Coronate
A moderately performed galloper before joining the Miller stable, Coronate has hit his straps this preparation. Six starts for the young trainer has returned three wins and two thirds, the three victories coming from the last three outings. The five year old gelding is yet to reach his peak and many more wins are in store.

  • Rathsallagh
A highly promising three year old, whose early career highlight was a second placing in the Group One 2008 Queensland Oaks. Her form hit a plateau for eighteen months but Robert Smerdon has invigorated the mare. Two city victories and important black type on the resume means Rathsallagh has a race track resume that will make her a valuable broodmare when her racing career is over.

Around The Tracks

  • Tony Vasil will be hoping his two year old filly Psychologist can improve his record in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes. In the past Vasil has had a number of runners in Victoria's richest two year old race. His best results have been Burgeis third in 2008 and Opportunity fourth in 2005. Psychologist made an impressive debut winning by four lengths in class record time.

  • Simon Miller easily recorded the best month of his short training career. In the month of January the Western Australian trainer for Aquanita saddled up thirteen runners for the month with eight sticking their necks out and winning at an amazing strike rate of 67%

  • The racing is hotting up not just here in Victoria but all over the country at present. Tasmania is in the middle of their summer carnival while racing in South Australia prepares for its Festival of Racing. The Group Two 3200m Adelaide Cup and Yallambee Classic highlight the meeting on the 8th of March. On the 20th of March two Group Ones are held with the running of the 1200m Robert Sangster Stakes for fillies and mares the other feature being the 2000m Schweppes Oaks.
