| Aquanita Yearling Success |
A Winner off Course
At Aquanita Racing we don't only pride ourselves on race track success.
At the recent Victorian Thoroughbred Employee of the Year Awards for 2009 Aquanita were represented by two staff in the finals.
Karen Ussher made the final three in the category of New Staff member of the Year. Congratulations to Karen for reaching the final, a just reward for a hard working enthusiastic member of the Smerdon staff.
In the final of the Track Work Rider of the Year, Kylie Schultz who works for Heath Conners was successful in taking out the title. Kylie has worked for Heath in excess of ten years and is not just a track rider to Heath, but a great strapper / foreperson / assistant, a real jack of all trades. Overall she has fourteen years experience working in the thoroughbred industry.
Heath Conners summed Kylie up best when questioned on why he nominated her for the award.
"She is faultless from an employer's perspective. There are no boundaries to her work ethic and others around her step up theirs from her example. She never complains, just gets on with the job at hand. She also contributes markedly to the culture of the stable as a role model and as a naturally friendly and kind colleague."
Happy Racing

Horses to Follow
- Psychologist
The two year old filly put the writing on the wall with a wire to wire victory in the Group Three Blue Diamond Prelude. Two weeks later a mix of inexperience and bad luck cost her any chance of winning the Victoria's richest juvenile race. Heading to Sydney for the autumn carnival where she will be competitive in everything she enters.
- Tottenham Hots
Two wins from his first three starts shows that the patience of trainer Simon Miller for his owners is paying. Blotted his copybook with a disappointing second start but bounced in late February with a strong win in an open 1400m three year old. A lot like the trainer has speed to burn and untapped potential.
- Lady Lynette
This mare matured into a top line performer last spring where she strung together a number of quality wins at Listed and Group Level. Her effort behind Typhoon Tracey on Derby Day in the Group One Myer Classic was probably her best rated effort. She returned to the races with a slashing third in a 1200m Handicap. Can handle all surfaces and is very good up to 2000m.

Around The Tracks
A reminder to Victorian owners that a sausage sizzle and drinks is being held at the Caulfield stables on Friday the 19th of March between the hours of 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Please RSVP to accounts@aquanita.com.au by Tuesday the 16th of March for catering purposes.
The first session of the 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale concluded with a 30% increase on 2009. A total of 396 horses were sold with the gross figure being in excess of $28 million.
Tony Vasil passed an important milestone when his Oaks bound filly Valdemoro bound away for her maiden win. The filly's victory at Sale was trainer Vasil's 400th since joining the Aquanita team in the 2002 season. Along the way have been numerous Group and Listed wins including 12 at Group One. Never one afraid to travel his horses Vasil has won at meetings as diverse as Burrumbeet to Dubai and all places in between. Well done to Tony and his team we look forward to the next 400.
